FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for detecting small masses, based on use of piezoelectric mass-sensitive sensor – quartz microbalance (QM). To determine sensitivity QM the substance is deposited from the reference source on the working surface of the quartz resonator and on the auxiliary surface of the quartz plate. At that, deposition of substance on these surfaces periodically alternate with each other not less than 20 times by mechanical input and output of quartz plate from gap between working surface and reference source. Time of substance deposition on auxiliary surface is not less than 40 times, more than time of substance deposition on working surface of mass of substance, deposited on auxiliary surface, and the mass of the substance deposited on the working surface is calculated in proportion to the total time during which the substance was deposited. Coefficient of mass sensitivity is calculated in the form of an increment of the deposited mass per unit of change in the resonant frequency of the quartz resonator and the area of its working surface.

EFFECT: technical result is wider range of applicability of method, as well as simplification thereof.
