FIELD: manufacturing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a foam resin based on phenol resin and a method for production thereof. Phenol resin-based foam contains cyclopentane and high-boiling hydrocarbon with a boiling point of 140 °C or more and 350 °C or less and has density of 10 kg/m3 or more and 150 kg/m3 or less. Content of cyclopentane in phenol resin-based foam plastic ranges from 0.25 mol or more and 0.85 mol or less per volume of space 22.4×10-3 m3 in phenol resin-based foam plastic. Foam plastic is obtained by mixing a foamed composition in the mixer containing at least one phenol resin, a surfactant, a high-boiling hydrocarbon with a boiling point of 140 °C or more and 350 °C or less, a foaming agent comprising cyclopentane and an acid curing catalyst. Further, the foamed composition is unloaded from the distribution section in the mixer. Foamed composition is heated to foaming and hardening. During foaming and hardening, pressure is applied to foamed composition from above and from below to form foam plastic in the form of plates. Foamed composition can additionally contain one component selected from a poorly water-soluble metal hydroxide, a phosphorus-based flame retarder which is poorly soluble in water. Said foaming agent may additionally contain hydrofluoroolefin.

EFFECT: invention enables, for example, to obtain insulating materials having low initial thermal conductivity and maintaining low heat conductivity for a long time, while maintaining high compression strength.
