FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of removing sulphur compounds from gas and extracting sulphur from a gas stream containing up to 15 wt. % of sulphur. In particular, gases which are released as a result of the Claus process are considered. This method includes first hydrogenation of sulphur compounds in H2S, gas used for hydrogenation, is also used for regeneration of inactivated layer of oxidation catalyst. Both steps are performed at 200–500 °C. After removal of sulphur, produced gas passes through second stage of hydrogenation. Then follows the stage of direct oxidation. Said step is carried out below sulphur dew point to trap formed sulphur in catalyst. In the next cycle, gas flows are switched to regenerate catalyst, which is inactivated, on the move. In a preferable embodiment, the method operates in two identical reactors, each of which contains a layer of a hydrogenation catalyst with subsequent (in the sense of a gas stream) layer of a direct oxidation catalyst containing a built-in heat exchanger.
EFFECT: invention provides improved method of extracting sulfur and achieves degree of achievement higher than 99,6 %.
