FIELD: communication equipment.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a communication device in a vehicle. Communication device (10) is configured to communicate with terminal device (20), for example, smartphone having vehicle key information. Communication device (10) in vehicle comprises transmission controller (11), determination unit (15). Determination unit (15) is configured to perform control so that the first signal for activation of terminal device (20) is transmitted from transmitting antenna (12) outside the vehicle cabin. Predetermined second signal is transmitted from transmitting antenna (12) outside the vehicle cabin and transmitting antenna (13) inside the vehicle cabin after transmitting the first signal. Determination unit (15) is configured to determine whether terminal device (20) is present from the outside or inside the vehicle, based on the first response signal, which is transmitted from terminal device (20) to communication device (10) in the vehicle after transmitting the second signal. At that, transmission controller (11) is configured to perform, when determination unit (15) is unable to determine whether terminal device (20) is present from the outside or inside the vehicle, control so that the third signal for activation of terminal device (20) is transmitted from transmitting antenna (13) inside vehicle cabin. Determination unit (15) is configured to determine whether terminal device (20) is present from the outside or inside the vehicle, based on the second response signal, which is transmitted from terminal device (20) to communication device (10) in the vehicle after transmitting the third signal. Also disclosed is a communication method by which a communication device in a vehicle communicates with a terminal device having vehicle key information.

EFFECT: accurate determination of whether a terminal device with key information is present from outside or inside the vehicle, even in a communication environment in which there is a noise effect.
