SUBSTANCE: invention relates to operation and repair of operating gas pipelines and can be used for emptying sections of gas pipelines before performing repair and restoration works and frames. Method of emptying a section of a gas line to be repaired and displacing natural gas involves switching off the emptying section from the main gas line by means of shutoff devices and emptying said section from the compressed natural gas contained therein. After switching off the emptying section, the natural gas contained therein is displaced by movement of the self-propelled piston-displacer introduced into the cavity of the gas line.
EFFECT: invention will allow to prevent loss of natural gas during repair works on sections of gas pipeline.
