FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of forming a wear-resistant layer on the surface of an article from aluminum alloy and can be used to increase reliability and durability of a wide range of parts of machines from aluminum alloys. Proposed method comprises forming said layer by magnetron sputtering in vacuum chamber. On the surface of the aluminum base, a titanium layer is applied by magnetron sputtering in the form of a film with thickness of 0.2 mcm to 0.4 mcm. Then, the hardening intermetallic phases of the Ti-Al system are formed by liquid-phase mixing of the titanium layer with the near-surface layer of the aluminum base by means of a wide-aperture electron beam with energy density 4.2–4.4 J/cm2. Process is ensured by excitation of a chemical reaction between aluminum present in the base, with a titanium film on its surface deposited in the form of a coating, in the thermal explosion mode by means of pulse heating of the surface using a low-energy high-current electron beam.
EFFECT: disclosed is method of forming intermetallic coatings of ti-al system on surfaces of aluminum alloys.
