FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of wear-, shock-, heat-, crack- and corrosion-resistant coatings and can be used in machine building to increase reliability and durability of wide range of parts of machines and tools. Method of forming a wear-resistant composite coating on a surface of a metal cutting tool comprises placing a machined metal cutting tool in a vacuum chamber, carrying out ion cleaning of part surface with electric arc evaporator in inert gas medium, application of titanium cathode lower part onto part surface, application of a layer based on titanium-aluminium nitride by means of two cathodes from aluminium and titanium located in one plane opposite to each other. Application of the coating layers is performed at assistance with the plasma source with the incandescent cathode. After the processed metal cutting tool is placed in the vacuum chamber around the working surface of each metal cutting tool at distance of 3–15 mm therefrom a process mesh is fixed, which is under the same potential with the said metal cutting tool, and using said process mesh high density plasma is created. Formation of wear-resistant coating is performed at rotation of metal cutting tool around its axis and working table axis.
EFFECT: providing formation of coatings with improved mechanical properties and uniform thickness on tools of complex configuration.
