FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to determination of carbon in mineral materials. Method includes weighing of a weighed portion of a mineral material, treatment of a weight with an aqueous solution of an acid, filtration of the solution with an undissolved residue, drying the residue on the filter, placing the residue into a refractory crucible, weighing, calcining in the furnace and weighing the crucible with the residue after calcination. Treatment of weight is carried out with an aqueous solution which does not exhibit oxidising properties with respect to carbon of monobasic acid with concentration of 3.0–5.0 n. solution with volume of solution of 10–30 ml. After acid treatment, obtained solution is weighed with non-soluble residue and mass fraction of chemically bonded carbon is calculated from weighed portion weight and solution weight with non-soluble residue. Calcination is carried out in an oxidative gaseous atmosphere with high-temperature oxidation. Weight of the crucible with the content and the weight of the crucible with the residue after ignition is used to calculate the fraction of free carbon.
EFFECT: enabling determination of quantitative ratio between chemically bonded carbon and free carbon.
