FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method can be used in scientific and practical medicine, namely for determining volumes of pathological formations in the spinal cord on a high-field magnetic resonance tomograph. To obtain images corresponding to a certain section of spinal cord in frontal, sagittal and axial planes of projection, unload in format ipj, png or jpeg. Obtained images are contoured using a differential contouring algorithm to isolate a pathological area on a cut. Optimum parameters for contouring are selected. Area of interest is selected and its area is calculated by Gauss method. Image of the adjacent section is loaded, and the operation is repeated for all images of volume formation sections.

EFFECT: invention provides higher accuracy of determining and calculating the volume of pathological formations of the spinal cord.
