SUBSTANCE: present invention proposes a method of controlling a braking device for an engine for an internal combustion engine of an automobile, in particular a truck or a bus. Engine braking device comprises inlet system (2), exhaust system (3), gas exchange valves connected to internal combustion engine, fuel injection device, which injects fuel into at least one combustion chamber, exhaust turbo-charge (7) by means of at least one exhaust turbosupercharger built into exhaust system (3) and inlet system (2), and engine braking unit (14). Engine braking unit (14) has decompression brake, which acts on at least one outlet valve from gas exchange valves, and brake shield (12), which is located in exhaust system (3) and causes accumulation of exhaust gas. When braking by engine (B) or during braking with engine (B) starts, fuel is injected into at least one combustion chamber in internal combustion engine (1) for a predetermined period of time, wherein the injection is controlled in accordance with the supercharging pressure (PL) prevailing in inlet system (2) downstream of turbo-supercharger (7) compressor (9).
EFFECT: technical result is creation of engine braking method and device, by means of which braking power can be increased by engine, which is an internal combustion engine of considered type, having exhaust turbo-charge, wherein the internal combustion engine internal combustion engine temperature in the engine braking mode should remain at the minimum possible level.
