SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of detecting obstacles located near a vehicle. Method comprises steps of: receiving, by means of a vehicle controller, data from at least one sensor mounted on a vehicle; by means of an obstacle detection system executed by a controller, creating a map based on a probabilistic grid associated with the region next to the vehicle, wherein the map based on the probability grid is given as a two-dimensional matrix of cells distributed in a horizontal plane adjacent to the vehicle; determining, using the obstacle detection system, the reliability associated with each cell of the cell array in the map based on the probabilistic grid; and determining, by the obstacle detection system, the possibility that the obstacle exists in the vicinity of the vehicle based on the probability graticule based map; performing the time analysis of the received data using the recognition and forgetting factors associated with the map based on the probabilistic grid; wherein the recognition factor increases the probability value associated with each cell of the cell array over time; and wherein the forgetting factor reduces the probability associated with each cell of the cell array over time.
EFFECT: detection of obstacles near the vehicle is achieved.
