METHOD OF PRODUCING HYDROGEN AND ELEMENTARY SULFUR FROM HYDROGEN SULFIDE Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC C01B17/04 C01B3/02 B01D53/52

Abstract RU 2709374 C1

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry and specifically to a method of producing hydrogen and elemental sulfur via decomposition of hydrogen sulfide and can be used to purify gas emissions from hydrogen sulfide. Method comprises passing initial hydrogen sulfide-containing gas through a fixed layer of a granular solid chemisorbent capable of adsorbing hydrogen sulfide with formation of hydrogen and solid sulfur-containing compounds on the surface of the chemosorbent, extraction of hydrogen from the obtained gas stream and periodic regeneration of the layer by decomposition of sulfur-containing compounds and extraction of elementary sulfur vapor at high temperature with subsequent condensation of sulfur vapors at low temperature. Method comprises not less than two parallel reactors containing chemisorbent layers, wherein in each of reactors chemisorption mode is alternated with supply of initial hydrogen sulfide-containing gas with temperature from -30 to 100 °C and regeneration mode with supply of regenerating gas not containing hydrogen, with temperature of 500–700 °C in the opposite direction, performing transition from chemisorption mode to regeneration mode with chemisorbent temperature reduction below preset value in range of 150–250 °C at point of layer of chemisorbent, distant from entry point of hydrogen sulfide-containing gas at distance from 30 to 60 % of height of layer.

EFFECT: invention ensures complete decomposition of hydrogen sulfide in continuous mode with considerable reduction of temperature of initial hydrogen sulfide-containing gas, simplification of equipment for implementation of the method, including its heat-exchange infrastructure, reduction of power consumption, as well as possibility of processing of hydrogen sulfide-containing gases without preliminary treatment.
