FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of hydrogen and elemental sulphur, as well as in purification of gas emissions from hydrogen sulphide. Method of producing hydrogen and elemental sulphur from hydrogen sulphide involves passing an initial hydrogen sulphide-containing gas through a fixed bed of a granular solid chemisorbent, capable of adsorbing hydrogen sulphide with formation of hydrogen and formation of solid sulphur-containing compounds on surface of chemisorbent. Hydrogen is extracted from the obtained gas stream and the layer is periodically regenerated by decomposition of the said sulphur-containing compounds and extraction of vapours of elementary sulphur at high temperature with subsequent condensation of sulphur vapours at low temperature. Method is carried out in at least two parallel reactors containing chemisorbent layers. In each of the reactors, the chemisorption mode with supply of the initial hydrogen sulphide-containing gas and the regeneration mode with supply of the regenerating gas which does not contain hydrogen are alternated. Regeneration is carried out with supply of regenerating gas into chemisorbent layer containing from 0.1 to 50 vol.% oxygen, with temperature from 0 to 250 °C.

EFFECT: invention reduces power consumption for chemisorbent regeneration during decomposition of H2S in continuous mode.
