FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a continuous in-line method of producing, with high output, one or more lactic acid esters and 2-hydroxy-3-butenoic acid from sugar in the presence of a solid catalyst based on a Lewis acid and a solvent containing an organic solvent and water, where water is present in an amount of up to or equal to 10 vol. % of the organic solvent.
EFFECT: disclosed is a method of producing lactic acid esters from sugars.
