SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method for classifying the type and weight of a towed vehicle. Method comprises steps, according to which during motion of vehicle along road segment, trailer characteristics connected to vehicle are detected, based on a road gradient determined in real time relative to the expected road gradient for the corresponding road segment. Car operation is controlled based on detected characteristics.
EFFECT: enabling adjustment of vehicle operation based on classification of trailer connected to vehicle.
