FIELD: motor vehicles industry.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method for controlling a vehicle engine to adjust the warm-up of an exhaust system based on information from the vehicle network. Vehicle is operated when its speed drops below the threshold speed and determine a first predicted time is determined for increasing the vehicle speed above the threshold speed, which is greater than a first estimated time for reducing the temperature of the catalytic converter below the threshold temperature and/or a threshold period. In response to the drop in vehicle speed below the threshold speed, actions aimed at warming up the exhaust system when the first predicted time is longer than the first estimated time and/or threshold period are excluded. Vehicle is operated when its speed drops below the threshold speed and a second predicted time is determined for increasing the vehicle speed above the threshold speed, which is less than the second estimated time. Actions aimed at heating the exhaust system when the second predicted time is less than the second estimated time are performed. By predicting the driving conditions in which the exhaust system cannot be heated to operating temperature, forced actions aimed at warming up can be delayed or, in some cases, excluded until suitable conditions occur.
