SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used for prediction of high risk of developing proliferative diabetic retinopathy in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes mellitus. OCT-angiography is performed in pregnant women at 10–12th week, 20–22th week, 30–32 weeks of gestation, and if in the second or third examination in comparison with values of parameters obtained in any of the previous examinations, increasing the area of the foveal avascular zone by 10 % and more, increasing the total area of nonperfusion zones in the posterior pole by 23 % and more, reducing total vascular density by 10 % and more, reduction of foveal vascular density by 10 % and more, both in each parameter in isolation, and in their combination, high risk of developing proliferative diabetic retinopathy is diagnosed.

EFFECT: method enables timely detection of a high risk of developing proliferative diabetic retinopathy in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes mellitus by determining clear quantitative criteria that enables maintaining high visual functions throughout pregnancy and in the puerperium by taking timely therapeutic measures.
