SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the computer equipment. Method for encoding a colour picture having colour components comprises: obtaining a luminance component (L) and two final chrominance components (C1, C2) from a colour picture to be encoded, obtaining a final luminance component (L'') and two final chrominance components (C1'', C2''), and encoding L" and one final chroma component, wherein in addition: determining a first coefficient () based on each pixel (i) L; obtaining C1'', C2'' by scaling C1, C2 by first coefficient; and final components L" are obtained by linear combination of component L and two components C1'', C2'' as follows: , where m and n are non-zero coefficients.
EFFECT: technical result is providing backward compatibility of SDR and HDR by combining decoded brightness and chrominance components.
