SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to experimental pharmacology, and can be used for studying the pathophysiology of osteoporosis on the background of diabetes mellitus and searching for innovative preparations for treating complications of diabetes mellitus. A method for modeling osteoporosis with a background of streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus involves administering streptozotocin single dose 45 mg/kg intravenously into a tail vein in Wistar rats with further glycemia monitoring, then 7 days after the first introduction, streptozotocin 20 mg/kg is repeated in animals with glycemia level less than 15 mmol/l; thereafter, bone density is analyzed on 57th day using a multispectral imaging system apparatus.

EFFECT: invention provides reduced mortality in animals with high sensitivity to streptozotocin and reduced percentage of recovery in animals with low susceptibility to streptozotocin.
