SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engines with exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR). Method for the engine consists in directing the exhaust gas flow through outlet channel (26) without directing the exhaust gas flow through bypass channel (28), the recirculation channel and the EGR main line (29), when three-way valve (58) is in completely closed position and bypass valve (60) is in more open position. Exhaust gas flow is directed along outlet channel (26) and via recirculation channel to EGR main line (29) without directing flow of exhaust gases by bypass channel (28), when bypass part of three-way valve (58) is in closed position and three-way valve is in more open position. Exhaust gas flow is directed along outlet channel (26) and via bypass channel (56) heat exchanger (28) to EGR main line (29) without directing waste gas flow through recirculation channel, when recirculating portion of three-way valve (58) is in closed position and said bypass valve (60) is in a more closed position.
EFFECT: technical result consists in provision of hot and cold exhaust gases supply to engine, as well as provision of cooled exhaust gases supply to hot exhaust flow.
