FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an electrode for use in electrochlorination baths, a method of making an electrode and a method for biocidal treatment of an aqueous solution of sodium chloride. Electrode includes titanium substrate, internal catalytic coating applied on substrate, and external catalytic coating applied over internal catalytic coating. Inner catalytic coating contains mixture of tantalum, ruthenium and iridium oxides. External catalytic coating contains a mixture of oxides of titanium, ruthenium and at least one element selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron and cobalt.
EFFECT: technical result consists in obtaining an electrode having high selectivity with respect to formation of active chlorine from diluted solutions of sodium chloride even at low temperature with a technical resource suitable for industrial use even in conditions of periodic change of its polarity.
