FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to otorhinolaryngology, and can be used for treating patients with olfactory dysfunction in atrophic rhinitis. Method includes preliminary diagnosing of olfactory function disorder with calculation of total score by "Sniffin' Sticks Test". If total test score is 1–15 points, functional anosmia – residual ability to olfaction is diagnosed, at 16–30 points, hyposmia – smell reduction – is diagnosed. Treatment of olfactory dysfunction involves: irrigation therapy – washing the nasal cavity with 0.9 % NaCl physiological solution in amount of 5–10 ml for 5 minutes daily 2 times day for 3 weeks; olfactory training using rose oil, eucalyptus, lemon and cloves, which are brought to vestibule for 10 seconds for each, with interval of 10 seconds for 84 to 252 days. Simultaneously, a medicamentous therapy with Neuromidine is used. In functional anosmia with total test score of 1–15 points by intramuscular introduction in amount of 5 to 15 mg/ml 1-2 times day for 10 days, followed by treatment with Neuromidine 1 tablet 10 to 20 mg 3 times day for 28 days. If hyposmia with total test score of 16–30 points by intramuscular introduction in amount of 5 mg/ml 2 times day for 10 days, followed by treatment with Neuromidine 1 tablet 10 to 20 mg 2 times day for 28 days.
EFFECT: method enables higher clinical effectiveness in olfactory dysfunction by acting on peripheral olfactory tract, and stimulation of olfactory epithelial cell regeneration by olfactory trainings and using Neuromedin preparation, which has a direct stimulating effect on the impulse as per the nerve fiber.
