FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to actuating devices. System of actuating devices comprises matrix of actuation devices, first signal lines and second signal lines for supply of excitation signal to actuating device and an excitation device for feeding signals with at least two possible levels to first signal lines and signals with at least two possible levels in second signal lines. Signals are sent so that the excitation signal received by the actuating device is a combination of a signal of one level from the first signal lines and one signal from the second signal lines. Each actuating device has an activation structure comprising a carrier and electroactive material attached to the carrier for causing bending and/or changing bending in response to excitation of electroactive material and a mechanical structure for setting at least a first stable mechanical state and a second stable mechanical state different from the first stable mechanical state of the actuating structure, by mechanical retention of the actuating structure in the bent configuration in one of the first and second stable mechanical states. During excitation, the actuating structure can switch from the first stable mechanical state to the second stable mechanical state. Only one of four possible levels of combined signals provides switching from the first stable state to the second stable state of the device. Actuation structure is substantially flat in one of first and second stable mechanical states when actuating device is not excited.
EFFECT: technical result is enabling possibility of saving device in actuation state without continuous application of excitation signal.
