FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: actuator comprises electroactive polymer layer and stretched electrode structures, which are placed at each side of the above electroactive polymer layer. Softer passive layer is fixed to one of stretched electrode structures. At transverse contraction by stretched electrode structures the electroactive polymer layer will be expanded tangentially, and the actuator will relax forming a shape at which inner part of the area complete with electrodes is in essence parallel to the device plane while the significant part of the area increment is neutralized by lateral bending, which occurs at the boundary of electrodes (submersion mode). The invention may be implemented as optically reflecting or refracting devices of variable geometry.
EFFECT: developing actuator with actuation mode ensuring relatively sharp edges at limited expansion in plane.
