FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed piezoelectric transducer for ultrasonic gas flow meters is used in instrument engineering for transmitting sound energy to gas and receiving sound energy from gas when measuring its flow in pressure gas pipelines. Piezoelectric transducer has a piezoelectric element in form of a disc, a matching layer in the form of epoxy resin-bound glass spheres, a metal housing with a membrane on the working side and output contacts for the communication line on the opposite side. Proposed transducer differs by the fact that in order to increase reproducibility of measurements due to the dominant peak on the resonance curve, the relative thickness of the matching layer ranges from 0.05 to 0.12 of the emitter diameter. Pair of transducers is installed coaxially to each other in gas line at an angle to moving flow, alternatively are excited with electric pulses and acoustic signal is received, which has passed through flow. Difference in time of passage of sound wave along and against flow is a measure of stream speed and flow rate.
EFFECT: providing one dominant peak on the resonance curve, higher reproducibility and accuracy of measuring gas flow rate.
