FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for sealing of drain channel for slag in direct melting converter containing melting bath of slag and molten metal, wherein said converter comprises, at least, one tuyere for injection of solid particles passing downward and inward through converter side wall equipped with refractory lining for injection of metal-bearing material and/or carbon-containing material. Slag drain channel extends from the inlet end open to the melting bath on the inner surface of the above converter side wall to the place on the outer side of the converter or nearby it, it differs from known designs in that said channel is sealed by placing therein a fire-resistant material resistant to corrosion with provision of inlet end open to melting bath and sealing downstream channel.
EFFECT: invention reduces the possibility of formation of a funnel-like corrosion structure and maintenance frequency of the refractory material, wherein slag discharge can be performed by drilling through a pre-formed plug.
