FIELD: railway construction.

SUBSTANCE: method can be used for thermite welding of butt electric traction connector with side surface of rail head, for example, on electrified rail transport during laying of new tracks or during repair and recovery operations. Thermite element is used, made flat with recess, which is installed on side surface of rail. Butt connector is arranged in recess of thermite element. Termite is burnt. After the termination of burning of the thermite element, the compressing load is applied to the connected parts to form a weld joint.

EFFECT: higher quality of welded joint at thermite welding of parts along their side surfaces.
