FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing thermosetting polyester foam material. Method includes following successive stages, in which: (a) forming an expandable and thermosetting composition comprising a polyol component comprising at least one compound selected from glycerol, diglycerol and oligomers of glycerol, a polyacid component comprising at least 50 wt. % of citric acid, a surfactant selected from alkyl polyglycosides and mixtures of an anionic surfactant and a cationic surfactant, and an esterification catalyst, (b) introducing the expandable and thermosetting composition into the mold, or applying the expandable composition onto the substrate, (c) heating the expandable and thermosetting composition at a temperature of at least 175 °C to react the polyol component with the polyacid component and form a thermosetting polyester foamed material block. Polyol component and the polyacid component together make at least 60 % of the dry weight of the expandable and thermosetting composition and the corresponding amounts of the polyol and polyacid components are adjusted such that OH-functional groups and COOH functional groups are present in a molar ratio between 0.65 and 1.5.
EFFECT: technical result is providing hard foam density of between 20 and 80 kg/m3, a closed porosity with an average pore diameter, determined by X-ray tomography between 100 and 800 microns.
