FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum-plasma application of wear-resistant coating of nitride or carbonitride of niobium, titanium and silicon compounds at their ratio, at.%: niobium 52.5, titanium 45.3, silicon 2.2. Coating is applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, the first and the second of which are made from niobium and located opposite to each other, and the third one is made from alloy of titanium and silicon and placed between them.
EFFECT: increased functionality of cutting tool.
