FIELD: engine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a system and methods for diagnosing an engine air filter based on deterioration of engine air filter characteristics in accordance with an average pressure change value on an engine air filter, wherein pressure change on engine air filter is based on data obtained by controller during transient air flow modes through engine air filter; and adjusting one or more actuators of engine torque transmission to compensate for reduction in engine torque associated with deterioration of engine air filter characteristics. Besides, said average value and standard deviation are basis for evaluation of useful service life of air filter.
EFFECT: secondary system and engine control method are proposed.
