SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication engineering and can be used in wireless communication systems. To this end, a method is implemented by a radio access network node. Radio access network node serves a mobile station MS. Radio access network node receives a message from the positioning unit to be transmitted to the MS. Message contains an indication that the said message contains a command for the MS to perform the multilateration procedure based on the timing advance to determine the location of the MS.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improved transmission capacity.
