FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing ammonia through catalytic conversion of make-up gas containing hydrogen and nitrogen, as well as to an apparatus for its implementation and to a method of modernizing the ammonia synthesis loop. Method includes at least two reaction steps for ammonia synthesis, where said steps are carried out successively to obtain an ammonia-containing gaseous product (10, 13, 34, 38) on each of them. Then, at least part of gaseous product (12A, 36) of previous reaction stage is supplied as feed flow for second and any next reaction stage, where between successive reaction steps there performed is intermediate adsorption stage for adsorption of ammonia. Said reaction steps are carried out in one or more catalyst beds (2, 3, 24, 25, 26, 27) arranged in one vessel-reactor or in different reactor vessels, and each of said reaction stages is carried out in a volume of a catalyst substantially equal to or greater than the volume of the catalyst of the next reaction stage.
EFFECT: technical result consists in development of ammonia synthesis method with high conversion per pass of reagents, characterized by simplicity, reliability and economy.
