FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: photocatalytic composition containing: (a) from 15 to 60 wt. % of at least one air binder selected from slaked lime, chalk or mixtures thereof or magnesia cement; (b) from 0.5 to 12 wt. % of at least one photocatalyst; (c) from 0.02 to 3 wt. % of at least one cellulose ether; (d) from 0.05 to 5 wt. % of at least one thinner fluid; (e) from 5 to 40 wt. % of at least one pumice in form of a micronized powder; (f) from 1 to 20 wt. % of at least one barite in form of micronized powder. Photocatalytic composition for internal coating of building elements is used to reduce the presence of contaminants, reduce the total amount of bacteria and eliminate unpleasant odours, as well as for coating metal surfaces, wooden surfaces or plastic surfaces. Method of producing water-based paints includes steps of adding water to said photocatalytic composition, wherein weight ratio of water/binder ranges from 0.2 to 0.8; and stirring until a liquid and homogeneous product is obtained. High coefficient of reflection of surfaces coated with a photocatalytic composition according to the present invention enables to save electric energy for lighting in houses, offices, schools, and so forth. Moreover, in order to achieve the same illumination of the room, energy consumption by light sources (lamps and similar devices) is reduced.
EFFECT: such coating also has noticeable inhibiting properties with respect to growth of mold and bacteria on wall surfaces.
