SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. Disclosed is a method of creating index of segments of at least one polygon, which defines borders of corresponding geographical area on map. Method includes segmentation of support zone, which covers at least part of card, in which there are all segments of polygon, on zones of first level. In response to the fact that at least one segment is at least partially located in more than one zone of the first level, the method involves indexing at least one segment as associated with a reference area. Method also includes, before achievement of final conditions, iteratively: (i) segmenting said zone into zones of subsequent levels, wherein said zone is a parent zone for zones of subsequent levels; and (ii) in response to the fact that at least one other segment is at least partially located inside more than one zone of the next level, indexing at least one other segment as associated with said zone.
EFFECT: technical result is creation of index of segments of at least one polygon, which defines borders of corresponding geographical area on map.
