SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems for determining the position of a vehicle. Method of estimating an own position using a target detection sensor and a home position evaluation circuit. Target detection sensor is mounted in a moving object, wherein the target detection sensor is configured to detect a relative position between the target present in the vicinity of the moving object and the moving object. Self-position evaluation circuit is configured to store a position in which the relative position is moved by the moving object movement amount as the target position data and compare the stored target position data with the map information including the position information relative to the target present on the road or around the road, thereby evaluating own position. Method for estimating an own position comprises steps of selecting target position data from stored target position data based on reliability of the relative position of the target position data relative to the moving object and comparing the selected target position data with the map information, thereby evaluating the own position.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of determining vehicle position.
