SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for estimating one's own location and an apparatus for estimating one's own location. Method for estimating one's own location includes detecting a road sign near the vehicle, determining the current location of the vehicle, obtaining information on the altitude of the detected road sign from the map data wherein information on the two-dimensional coordinates and the altitude of the road sign located near the road is recorded, based on the relative location of the detected road sign relative to the vehicle and the current location, and estimating the altitude of the vehicle according to the height information obtained from the map data.

EFFECT: possibility of determining on which of the roads located at different altitudes the vehicle is located.
