SUBSTANCE: heating unit for heating the aerosol-generating substrate, comprising heater (14) having an electrically resistive heating element (82) and heater substrate (81); and heater attachment (26) connected to heater (14). Electrically resistive heating element (82) comprises first section (84) and second section (86) made so that when electric current passes through heating element (82), first section (84) is heated to a higher temperature than second section (86). First section (84) of heating element (82) is located in heating area (91) of heater substrate (81), second section (86) of heating element (82) is located in holding area (93) of heater substrate (81), and heater attachment (26) is attached to heater substrate (81) holding area (93). Second section (86) of electrically resistive heating element (82) is longer than first section (84) of heating element (82).
EFFECT: enabling penetration of heating element (82) into an aerosol-forming substrate inside the aerosol-forming article.
