FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of processing carbon materials, specifically to methods of producing activated carbon from coal residue obtained after thermochemical pyrolysis during processing of organic material in pyrolysis unit. Method of processing carbonaceous material includes steps of feeding a carbon material to a activation chamber inlet with blades by a horizontal spiral-type auger, moving the carbon material over the steam activation zone, in which, under action of steam supplied by nozzles in lower part of steam activation chamber under pressure from 5 to 20 bar and with temperature of 900–1,000 °C, and rotating rotor with blades, carbon material moves to upper part of steam activation chamber, from which loosened carbon material descends downward by gravity-flowing pipe to inlet of spiral screw conveyor cooled by water jacket, wherein screw conveyor is installed so that movement of material occurs from bottom to top at an angle to horizontal line of 28–32°, after cooling to 30–50 °C, activated carbon material is supplied to outlet of spiral cooling screw conveyor and supplied to hopper.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of steam-gas activation at smaller weight and size characteristics of the plant due to uniform mixing, distribution and heating of carbon material in the vapor-gas chamber, as well as low water consumption and activation time.
