SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a reactor for carrying out chemical reactions, use of a reactor in a method of producing nitrogen oxides, a method of producing nitrogen oxides in a reactor and a method of producing nitric acid in a reactor. Reactor comprises a device which includes a bottom permeable for gas and/or liquid, a side limiter located in the peripheral area of the bottom, completely surrounding bottom and forming volume with catalytic and/or non-catalytic molded articles, and braided item from noble and/or base metal, located on the side, located opposite bottom upstream. Catalytic and/or non-catalytic molded articles are selected from molded articles in the form of straight prisms, the base of which is selected from a triangle, a rectangle, hexagon or fragments of said polygons, or a combination of molded articles with smaller molded articles. Groups comprising m to n molded articles, where m and n are integer from 3 to 30, wherein n>m, are arranged in metal cassette, open downstream and closed downstream gas permeable bottom, virtually without gaps between the sides and with vertical orientation of the longitudinal axis, almost completely overlapping bottom cross-section with formation into modules. If necessary, the modules, by means of the material for filling the seams and with the vertical orientation of the longitudinal axis of the molded articles, are mosaically joined to each other without any gaps so that they almost completely overlap the bottom cross-section.

EFFECT: invention provides effective use of aggregate practically without damage or destruction during operation of reactor and its effective practically without damage or destruction completely or partially loading and unloading.
