FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in mechanized and automatic underwater cutting of metal structures by wet method directly in fresh and sea water. Powder wire consists of steel shell and charge containing powdered components at the following content, wt. %: iron carbonate 50–70, alkali metal carbonate 20–30, alkali metal complex fluoride 10–20. Alkali metal carbonate of the charge contains a compound or a mixture of compounds selected from a group of sodium, potassium, lithium and cesium carbonates. Complex fluoride of the alkali metal of the charge contains a compound or a mixture of compounds selected from a group of sodium, potassium, lithium and cesium hexafluoroaluminates. Wet underwater cutting by powder wire with charge of specified composition allows for deep submersion of arc into metal, small width of cut, absence of slag and bead on outer and inner surfaces.
EFFECT: flux-cored wire provides higher efficiency and quality of wet underwater arc cutting of steels due to intensification of iron oxidation at simultaneous increase of concentration of electric arc heat input.
