FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to cardiology and rheumatology. Pulse wave velocity on the ankle-brachial segment (PWVab) is measured by recording the sphygmograms on the four extremities with the help of the occlusion cuffs and calculating an index by the formula PWVab = (AA-AB)/delta T, where AA is distance from beginning of aorta to location of cuff on ankle (cm); AB is the distance from the beginning of the aorta to the location of the cuff on the shoulder (cm); delta T is the time between the onset of the pulse wave recorded on the shoulder, and the beginning of the pulse wave recorded on the shin (s), and if the PWVab value is ≥13.2 m/s, the presence of coronary artery calcinosis is predicted, and if the PWVab value is ≥12.65–13.1 m/s, a thoracic aortic calcification is predicted.

EFFECT: method enables predicting the presence of calcification of coronary arteries and thoracic aorta by the level of arterial stiffness in the patients with high risk of cardiovascular complications with reduced mineral density of bone tissue.
