FIELD: medicine; cardiology; rheumatology.

SUBSTANCE: measurement of the pulse wave velocity along the shoulder-ankle segment (PWVsa) is performed by recording sphygmograms on the four limbs using occlusal cuffs. The indicator is calculated using the formula: PWVsa=AA-AS (cm)/delta T (sec), where AA is the distance from the beginning of the aorta to the place where the cuff is applied to the ankle; AS is the distance from the beginning of the aorta to the place where the cuff is applied to the shoulder; delta T is the time between the beginning of the pulse wave recorded on the shoulder and the beginning of the pulse wave recorded on the lower leg. At a value of PWVsa≥14.2 m/sec, the presence of osteoporosis is predicted.

EFFECT: method allows predicting osteoporosis at the primary health care level and identifying patients for further examination.
