SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in fuel management systems for internal combustion engines. According to the invention, during cold start of the engine, during one cycle of the cylinder, injecting from the fuel injection injector into the inlet channel, as well as direct fuel injections from the injector of the direct injection during the intake stroke and during the compression stroke and, in response to the direct injection of the minimum injection width for one of the direct injection injectors by one of the direct injections, reducing the ratio of the amount of fuel for injection into the inlet channel to the amount of fuel for direct injection while maintaining the same level of total fuel for injection for said cycle. At hot start of the engine and when one of the direct injections reaches the minimum pulse width for the direct injection injector, the smallest of the direct injections is switched off, simultaneously maintaining the same level of fuel ratio for injection into inlet channel to fuel quantity for direct injection.

EFFECT: invention allows reducing variability of engine characteristics and characteristics of emissions of harmful substances, which results from reduction of weight of fuel for injection below minimum weight.
