FIELD: radar ranging.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radar ranging and can be used to detect objects and detect their coordinates in a wide field of view. Said result is achieved in a radar ranging device and method using digital antenna arrays, comprising transmitting a digital antenna array signal comprising M ≥ 2 independent transmitting elements, digital antenna array reception comprising N ≥ 2 independent receiving elements, a signal from each of which passes matched filtering in accordance with emitted signals, which enables to form a virtual antenna array with M * N elements. Subsequent complex analysis of signals received by elements of the virtual grid, enables to determine direction of arrival of a signal and detection of presence of a target in a given direction. Each transmitting element emits a signal with phase-code modulation by a pseudonoise sequence unique for each transmitting element and having low mutual correlation with other modulating sequences.

EFFECT: forming a virtual antenna array with a large number of elements when using a small number of real receiving elements.
