FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, to methods of assessment of corneal hydration with the sub-terahertz radiation. To determine the value of the reflected signal from the cornea in sub-terahertz action, an avalanche transit-time diode with power of 0.5 to 1 mW, frequency of 95 GHz and a wavelength of λ≈3 mm of incident and reflected radiation is used as a source of sub-terahertz radiation. Radiation is directed to the cornea by means of a quasioptical horn and focused on the cornea by means of a Teflon lens. Reflected signal is focused by means of another Teflon lens located on the detector, the electric signal from which is measured using a selective voltmeter. Value of the reflected signal from the cornea is determined from its value.
EFFECT: invention provides determining the change in water content in the cornea and enables more accurate diagnosis of pathological changes of the cornea in various diseases, as well as cost-effectiveness.
