FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a cutting tool and to a method for manufacturing a cutting tool containing a hard-alloy base. The hard-alloy base for manufacturing a cutting tool contains tungsten carbide and 3 to 20 wt.% of a binder, wherein the binder contains intermetallic precipitates of γ'-Ni 3 Al embedded in the matrix of the solid substitutional solution. The binder contains Al and Ni with a mass ratio of Al/Ni from 0.03 to 0.10, wherein the total amount of Ni and Al is 70 to 95 wt.% of the total amount of binder, and wherein the hard alloy contains an eta-phase in an amount from 0.5 to 30 vol.%, wherein the eta-phase constitutes carbides selected from Me12C and Me6 C, where Me is selected from W and one or more binder metal, and the total content of carbon in the hard alloy, C ( wt.%), is less than the value X determined by the following equation:
EFFECT: possibility of manufacturing a hard alloy with a Ni3Al binder, wherein the formation of γ'-Ni 3Al precipitates can be controlled.
