FIELD: encoding and decoding video data.

SUBSTANCE: method of decoding video data comprises receiving a bit stream of encoded video data, encoded video data represent partitioned brightness units and partitioned chromaticity blocks, wherein chroma blocks are partitioned independently from brightness units, determining corresponding coding mode corresponding to corresponding partitioned brightness units, decoding corresponding partitioned brightness units in accordance with determined respective encoding modes, decoding the first syntax element, indicating that respective coding modes associated with respective partitioned brightness units to be used to decode first partitioned chroma unit, wherein first partitioned chromaticity unit is aligned with two or more partitioned brightness units, determining a chroma coding mode for a first partitioned chroma unit in accordance with a function of corresponding encoding modes of two or more partitioned brightness units and decoding a first partitioned chroma unit in accordance with a certain chroma encoding mode.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of decoding efficiency, possibility of obtaining color information from information on brightness of blocks, partitioned using separate and/or independent brightness and chromaticity sectioning.
