FIELD: hygiene.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an oral care composition containing zinc cations and methods for use thereof. Disclosed oral care composition contains zinc co-sulphate in amount of 1 wt % relative to total weight of oral care composition, an additional zinc ion source containing zinc citrate and sodium lauryl sulphate in amount of 0.05–5.0 wt % relative to the total weight of the oral care composition. What is also presented is a method of treating gingivitis and/or periodontitis, a method of reducing accumulation of plaque and a method of reducing the number of bacteria in the oral cavity of a subject, involving application of said composition on oral cavity of subject.
EFFECT: use of zinc coquet sulphate in combination with zinc citrate and sodium lauryl sulphate in the composition provides effective antibacterial action at relatively low levels of total zinc content.
