SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a sensor assembly for detecting and damaging engine bearings, and cavitation, as well as to a method of detecting and damaging engine bearings, and cavitation in pumps. Sensor unit (2) is configured to perform damage detection in a pump assembly comprising electric motor (70) and pump (30) for fluid medium. Sensor assembly (2) comprises housing (4) configured to be mechanically attached to pump (30) and configured to be secured in the opening provided in pump (30). One or more vibration-sensitive elements (16) are located in housing (4). Sensor unit (2) comprises computer unit (84) configured to receive sensor signals (V1, V2, V3) from vibration-sensitive element(s) (16) and perform calculations and thereby detecting engine bearing damage and cavitation.
EFFECT: provides for detection of damages in pump unit containing electric motor.
