SUBSTANCE: first and third objects represent an antimicrobial composition for the oral cavity, containing a carrier, a cationic quaternary ammonium antimicrobial compound and a silicon oxide and/or silicate material. Second and fourth objects represent a method of reducing or suppressing the growth of microbes in the oral cavity of the subject, involving administering the composition into the oral cavity in an effective amount.
EFFECT: technical result consists in providing a sustained release profile for a cationic antimicrobial agent from a silicon dioxide/silicate system in the oral cavity due to high absorption capacity and low content of silicon dioxide/silicate.
